i have been in your situation before. buying from a shop. the best way to get discounts is to purchase last years models and gear its usually really really cheap. or know someone who works there then you can get mad discounts. i did the same thing you did except i moved to a snowboarding town, my stuff was a lil easier to find. i got a burton baron 162 with burton custom cartel bindings used off of craigslist.com, i met up with the guy (he sent me pic previous to the meeting) and took a spec at it. they were practically brand new when i got em. i suggest you go online. goggles very important don't go cheap there ur vision is very important, i always rock oakley and avoid smith, von zipper, spy, and anon is very good. boots dc shoes has some really good boots, boards that is a personal preference, i am aburton person but jsut got turned on to gnu.
References :
Obviously your local board shops will have the best selection on gear however most of since it is QUALITY gear wont exactly be cheap unless it's on sale. The cheapest gear would be at retail stores like big 5,sports authority ect ect. But that stuff isn't exactly quality. If you don't have much money to spend and still want quality gear your best bet is to go down to your local board shops around the end of the season, Pretty much all shops around than have their usual 50% off sale on all the gear they couldn't sell that year.
